Lionel Messi is set to start as Inter Miami faces New York City FC at Yankee Stadium this afternoon, marking his third match since recovering from an injury sustained during the Copa America.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup champion has made significant progress from the right ankle injury he suffered on July 11.
In his two previous games, Messi has already netted two goals and provided an assist in his debut match last Saturday against Philadelphia. After a brief appearance of less than 30 minutes last Wednesday in Atlanta, he is expected to be fit for a longer stint in the Bronx.
Inter Miami coach Javier Morales shared his thoughts on Messi’s condition, stating, “The most important thing is that his ankle is responding well, and he’s gaining match rhythm with each game. We know he always wants to be on the field, and we’ll utilize him whenever possible. Not only does he elevate our play, but we also love having him as part of our team.”
